Given they’ve been around since 1996, Intertops can lay claim to being one of the world’s oldest poker sites. But at times, they appear to be exactly that: a card room that sometimes seems more like it belongs in 1996 than in 2021. The software and graphics can at times seem quite outdated with one having to assume that they haven’t given it a facelift for one of two reasons:  lack of funding to do so, or a fear that their loyal players, some of which have been around for a decade or more, wouldn’t welcome the change.

They’ve also seen better days in terms of traffic. Right now, you don’t always have a huge amount of choice when playing outside peak hours as regards buy-ins or the type of poker but there’s no quick fix for that.

But if that’s the bad news, there’s also plenty of good news. Good variety of tournaments and cash games, the ability to use Bitcoin and fast withdrawals are some of their plus points. Which we’re about to cover in more detail just now.

Bonuses and Promotions

Welcome Offer

Their welcome offer is an eye-catching 200% up to 1000 AUD, plus 25 free Casino spins.  The Casino free spins are straightforward; just contact Customer Service and they’ll award them to you. The bonus part of things isn’t so simple.

Unlike Casinos and Sportsbooks, you don’t get the bonus straight away. Rather, you get it released in batches of 5AUD after every 83,335 Frequent Player Points (FPP) earned and you get 1 FPP for every 1 AUD you pay in rake, or 7 FPPS for every 1 AUD paid in tournament fees.

So, not so easy to play so much that you can get the full 1000 AUD. You’d pretty much have to be playing around the clock or for very high stakes and it’s a task made harder by the extra rule that you only have three months to try to meet those requirements. At the end of the three months, that’s it and you won’t be able to claim any more bonus cash by this means.

In summary, it’s not quite the welcome bonus that it seems. Still, if you’re a regular player you’ll surely get something back and those 25 Casino spins aren’t something to turn your nose at.

Players should be aware that they’ll need to enter the relevant bonus code before making their deposit if they want to get their bonus.

Freerolls and Other Bonuses

Freerolls are tournaments that are free to enter. The name comes from the fact that a few decades ago in Las Vegas, you were occasionally given free rolls of coins wrapped in paper to play with as a way of giving new customers a freebie or rewarding existing customers for their loyalty, especially if they had had a bad day at the tables. You don’t see it much these days anymore in land casinos, but the name stuck when it comes to poker sites. So, what are they? They’re a free entry into a poker tournament.

The upside is obvious (they’re free); the downside is that you’re not playing for nearly as much money as you would in paid tournaments. But freerolls are a good way for new players to find their feet in Poker or even for more experienced ones to try out some new strategies and tricks they wouldn’t normally put into play, given they’re not using their own money here. After all: what do you have to lose?

Intertops will occasionally also give you reload bonuses, which are bonuses given when you make your next deposit. Make sure you sign up to their newsletter, so you know when they’re next giving them out.

Poker Games and Tournaments

Poker Games

Texas Hold’em remains king of the poker game on a worldwide basis and it’s no different here at Intertops. You’ll find more poker variants of tournaments and cash games (see below) of Hold’em than you will anything else.

But you can also play Pot Limit Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo plus another lesser-seen version called Telesina. Italian in origin, it has some special rules, such as the fact that the number of cards you play with is dependent on the number of players and that you’re dealt one card face up and another face down. It won’t be for everyone, but it’s nice to know it’s there.

Tournaments and Cash Games

There is a decent amount of variety when it comes to stakes, with some as low as 0.02/0.04 AUD and some as high as 10/20 AUD and that’s just fine. The problem is that they’re on the Horizon Poker Network that doesn’t boast as many players as other networks.

The result? Tournaments have less players, which means that even though it’s arguably easier to finish in the money, you’re not playing for as much of it. You’ll do well to see many tournaments with guaranteed prizepools of more than 1,000 AUD. A lack of players may also mean cash games aren’t as competitive or rich as they could be.

Banking Methods

Deposits and Withdrawals

When it comes to payment options, take your pick from the likes of VISA, Mastercard, Neteller, Skrill, Paysafecard, Ecopayz, plus a few others. See below for cryptocurrencies.

The minimum deposit is normally 25 AUSD though Skrill is just 20 AUD and Paysafecard, Cash Direct and Sofort is just 5 AUD. Maximum deposits vary and are between 1000 AUD for most of them and 2500 AUD.

All of those methods are free when it comes to depositing using them, with the exception of a bank wire transfer which will cost you…a lot more than it should…it varies from country to country. But that’s not a method we recommend at the best of times. It’s equally expensive when it comes to withdrawals and is the slowest method, as well.

Withdrawals are a bit more complicated to summarise. They vary in terms of minimum (25-3000 AUD) and maximum amounts (450-6000), how many you can request per week and how long they take to be processed, which is ‘within 48 hours’ at best to ‘up to 7 business days’ at worst. Best check their payments section which goes into a lot more detail than we will here.

What’s a shame is that many of these withdrawal methods have fees attached to them here. Yes, ok. That’s often how the payment provider makes their money, but it shouldn’t be solely up to the player to carry the cost of such a transaction. Check which options have the lowest costs, or no costs at all.

Cryptocurrencies

Which brings us to cryptocurrencies. All of Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash and Litecoin are available and they’re all free to deposit and withdraw with.

There’s also the added advantage that they offer greater levels of security and anonymity than using bank transfers, credit cards or even E-Wallets.

The problem of course is that they’re not everyone’s cup of tea. Lots of folk will be intimidated by the concept of a cryptocurrency or confuse by how it all works. It’s easy once you get your head round it all but that’s not so easy!

Not to mention, Bitcoin transfers aren’t 100% foolproof or straightforward. Any little detail missing, or inconsistency and it won’t go through.

Creating an Account

Impatient to start playing and don’t want to be messing around wasting time opening an account? Great, you’ve come to the right place.

You’ll just need to enter a few basic details like your country of residence, address, email and the currency you wish to play in. You’ll also need to choose a username and password and once you’ve done that and made a deposit, you’re ready to hit the tables.

Customer Support

There’s an FAQ section within the Customer Support area but in truth, it’s not as good as that at other sites. Yes, some of the FAQs are quite useful such as those to do with bonuses, how rake is calculated and the different types of poker games but there are plenty of areas that they don’t really cover such as info on making deposits. Worry not though because their Customer Service team is not only pretty good but is also available around the clock.

You can call them or speak to them via Live Chat, which is our recommended method. There are also a couple of e-mail addresses you can use, one for queries to do with payments and another for anything else.
